Obviously not an Aussie burl, but one of my favorites to turn (and smells great too) . . . two pieces I turned below, both with visible frost cracks that are common in a burl that grows in the -50oF temperatures that can occur in northern Minnesota.

2 hollow vessels I recently turned - the one with the frost crack from a BA-1 cut block. Bad photos (I need to re-shoot) but you get the idea. The left one obviously has a frost crack.  Personally, I think it gives the piece an antique look. No, I did not use tape or CA/glue of any kind.

More people than just me like the antique look that the natural frost cracks provide . . .

I'm trying something a bit different than 600 pixel pictures side by side so you can see these burls in detail more easily . . . 800 pixel photos with hyperlinks to the natural side picture.

If for some reason the hyperlinks on the picture don't work for you (I checked late afternoon on 4/29 and all were working), here's a link to a single page with all natural side photos Black Ash Burl Natural Side Photos
